Social Darwinism?

I have to wonder what it says about American culture that there are so many "reality" programs based around the idea of eliminating participants one by one to determine who's the alpha whatever-the-theme-of-the-show-is.
On the other hand I haven't really been able to think of anything good about American culture in years*.

*Not sure if the election counts
